Willingham on Bereavement List; Patterson called up
The Nationals selected the contract of outfielder Corey Patterson from Triple-A Syracuse, placed outfielder Josh Willingham on the Bereavement List and transferred right-hander Terrell Young to the 60-day disabled list.
Willingham is on the Bereavement List because his brother passed away in a car accident on Friday. He was hitting .294 (25-for-85) with eight home runs in his past 28 games.
After a slow start this season, Patterson batted .302 (35-for-116) with six home runs and 23 RBIs over a 39-game span in May and June.
