A.J. Pollock comes to Nationals Park

Notre Dame outfielder A.J. Pollock worked out for the Nationals at Nationals Park on Saturday, four days before the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. The team could take him with the 10th overall pick.

Acting general manager Mike Rizzo, team president Stan Kasten and the entire scouting department, including scouting director Dana Brown, were on hand to watch Pollock.

The workout started at 2:30 p.m. ET.  Pollock was seen doing outfield drills with outfield coordinator  Devon White. About 20 minutes later, Pollack took batting practice with Josh Bard, Elijah Dukes, Cristian Guzman, Willie Harris, Josh Willingham and Ryan Zimmerman. Pollack has a swing that reminds some of Rangers infielder Ian Kinsler.

“I thought he had a pretty nice swing for a guy coming out of college,” Harris said about Pollock. “He is young. He has a lot to learn as far as his strength. When [assistant general manager] Bob Boone told him to hit a ball foul, he started to hit the ball out of the ballpark and he hit them hard down the line. I think he is going to be a good player.”

Pollock played in 59 games for Notre Dame and hit .365 with 10 home runs 52 RBIs.
