Nats make second round of cuts
This release came from the Nationals a few minutes ago:
The Washington Nationals today reassigned right-handed pitcher Josh Towers, catcher Gustavo Molina, infielders Freddie Bynum and Joel Guzman, and outfielder Jorge Padilla to minor league camp.
The Nationals also optioned right-handed pitchers Tyler Clippard and Marco Estrada and outfielders Leonard Davis and Justin Maxwell to Triple-A Syracuse, and optioned right-handed pitcher Luis Atilano and infielder Ian Desmond to Double-A Harrisburg.
After today's moves, the Nationals' spring roster stands at 47.
And I was SO hoping Ian would make the Opening Day roster. Well, best that it's Harrisburg.
Also, I understand it's a numbers game at OF. Which explains Justin Maxwell going to Syracuse. At least he'll get quality at-bats there.
As far as C. Guzman goes, "day-to-day" would lead me to believe it's a little more serious than just a cut on a pinky toe. But, I'm NOT the trainer.
You know, I have a Nats (fan) blog here, Bill. You MIGHT want to read it, and tell me if I have the makings of a PRO writer. LMAO
