Desmond activated from DL; Izturis designated for assignment
The Nationals reinstated shortstop Ian Desmond from the 15-day disabled list and designated infielder Cesar Izturis for assignment.
Desmond hasn’t played in a game since early July because of a torn oblique. On Thursday, Desmond took batting practice and infield drills at Nationals Park and didn’t experience any problems.
“It was another great day,” Desmond said Thursday.
As for Izturis, he played in five games for Washington and went 2-for-4 with four runs scored before getting his walking papers. He was claimed off waivers from the Brewers on Aug. 6.

Hi Bill. I know Bryce had a good game tonight (except for that throw), but he’s really struggling, especially against lefties. Don’t you think a platoon for a while with Tyler Moore would be prudent? Tyler is the real deal, hitting the ball as hard as Morse typically. Harper will still play more, but Tyler needs to hit, especially out of the #2 hole. His numbers this year are commendable given his sporadic PT. And look at his numbers the last 2 years. I’d trade his average defense for his bat more often. Thoughts?
