Severino optioned to Syracuse
After the Nationals’ 6-4 loss to the Phillies on Sunday afternoon, the Nationals optioned reliever Atahualpa Severino to Triple-A Syracuse and will recall outfielder Justin Maxwell from Syracuse the next day.
Severino, 25, did not make an appearance during his three-game stint with the Nationals. However, he is 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 40 games for Syracuse.
This will mark the fourth time Maxwell will be recalled by the Nationals. In 24 games for Washington, Maxwell is 4-for-28 [.105] with a homer and three RBIs. He also has 14 walks that gives him a .340 on-base percentage.
In 66 games with Syracuse, Maxwell hit .287 with six home runs and 21 RBIs.

It becomes more and more obvious with each passing day just how poor the Nationals’ minor leasgue product is; given the repeated callups of the hopeless Maxwell. If they had anybody else down there that was any good, it is pretty obvious they wouldn’t keep trying to get something out of this guy who can’t hit major league pitching. That said, I hope he proves me wrong. Whaddya say Dibble?
