The pitching is improved, but still not consistent against clubs that can hit. The defense is good but inconsistent.
The offense is terrible. The people are in Washington because MLB already new they couldn’t hit particularly with men on base, and there are number one and two hitters on the team. The objective is to get on base, advance the runner. Rizzo isn’t helping things with all these little league
like activities. In terms of Dunn, what you see is what you get, a 275 hitter who will give you 30+ dingers and 90+ RBIs and an a very average defense at first base. However, he seems to understand the game and show that he will get better at 1st base. The issue is dollars and no one is coming to washington now unless you cough up lots of money. Bottom line, I thought this year’s draft was terrible. There are lots of college ball players that can hit and they can be signed without giving away the farm. We are working with players that demonstrated before they got to Washington that the were not Yankee material. Keep working on the pitching, the defense and get a batting coach that gets these guys to hit line drives (Charlie Lau).
If Zimmerman, did some work he could raise his average 30 points and his RBIs up to 120 with good 1 and 2 hitters.
