Williams, Dickenson relieved of duties

The Nationals have dismissed Bobby Williams, who was the director of player development, and Minor League hitting coordinator Ralph Dickenson.

The team did not give a reason as to why Williams and Dickenson were let go. Both Williams and Dickerson were hired by former general manager Jim Bowden.

Williams, who is the son of former NBA general manager Pat Williams, was in his third season at his job. He also managed for Class A Vermont and Savannah.

Dickenson was in his third season as the team’s hitting coordinator. He also was in his 33rd season as a coach or instructor in the pro and collegiate levels.

Williams and Dickerson were not available for comment.

The Nationals are expected to make more changes in the coming weeks.

Any thoughts on how Dickenson’s dismissed might affect Eckstein’s position in the organization, e.g., more organization-wide oversight of hitting?

I don’t think it affects Eckstein’s position at all. I believe he will be in charge of just the Major League club.

I agree Eckstien will be concentrating on the big league hitters. The real question is what kind of Coach (Hitting) & Player Development Guru are they going to bring in. I am not intimately familiar with Dickerson’s work but a good hitting coach at the minor league level, especially one who can get through to the younger players, is essential for a team developing through it’s Farm system.
Likewise I am not real familiar with Williams short comings or achievements. But a great Player evealuater is essential if we are going to have the right pieces at the right level to succeed on all levels…
