Detwiler sent to Syracuse; Mock back in big leagues

After Sunday’s 5-0 loss to the Astros, the Nationals optioned left-hander Ross Detwiler to Triple-A Syracuse and are expected to recall right-hander Garrett Mock from Syracuse.

Mock will be in the starting rotation and pitch against the Cubs on Sunday afternoon. Mock, who has been a reliever most of his Major League career, was 5-1 with a 2.65 ERA with Syracuse.

As for Detwiler, he leaves after going 0-5 with a 6.40 ERA in 10 starts. Instead of dwelling on the negative, manager Manny Acta said he was pleased with what Detwiler accomplished during his time in the big leagues.

“We are extremely happy with the way Detwiler pitched up here. He made so much progress,” Acta said. “If you told me that that he was going to start 10 big-league games this year, I wouldn’t believe it. Our plan was to develop him in the Minor Leagues and probably take a look at him in September.”

Through a team spokesman, Detwiler declined to talk to the media.

Mock?? Having a reliever start games when J.D. Martin a much better pitcher who is a starter with a much better era. This is why Acta has to be fired. I am done with being a Nationals fan. What a f pathetic moron. This is like him starting Chico every 5th start when we all know he would lose, having that loser from Baltimore Orioles start every 5th game, naming Kearns the starting outfielder even when spring training never started.

Manny didn’t chose the rotation (past what was given to him), but hey, you got your wish about him being fired. Now we have Riggleman, who was SO good for the Mariners last season (hint, he wasn’t). Anyhow, Mock was starting games for Syracuse and his 5-1 record, 2.65 ERA, was as a starter for the Chiefs. I say give him a shot.

Mock was dominant this past month as a starter for Syracuse. Definitely worth a shot, while giving Detwiller that opportunity to grow against AAA competition, which was their original plan with him
