Nationals sign two more draft picks
The Nationals agreed to terms with pitchers A.J. Morris (fourth round, Kansas State University) and Paul Applebee (10th round, University of California-Riverside).
Morris went 14-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 16 starts for Kansas State as a junior to earn the Golden Spikes nomination. A first-team All-American, Morris set single-season school records in wins, strikeouts (100), innings (116.1) and starts as a junior. He won 12 conference games en route to earning Big XII Pitcher of the Year honors in 2009.
With Friday’s signings, the Nationals have now agreed to terms with 25 players from the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, including nine of their top 12 picks.
