Dmitri Young takes leave of absence

Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young is taking a leave of absence to be with his mother, who is gravely ill. The Nationals told Young to take all the time he needed to be with his mother. Young did not give a timetable on when he will return to the field.

Young’s younger brother, Delmon, has been placed on the Family Medical Emergency List by the Twins.  Delmon will be away from the team from three to seven days, as stipulated by rules of the special list.

Once he returns to the team, Dmitri most likely will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse. Young has spent most of the season in extended Spring Training.
