Nationals release Shawn Hill

The Nationals have put right-hander Shawn Hill on waiver for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

The Nationals decided to make this move because of the uncertainty of Hill’s health. Hill has yet to play a full season in the big leagues because elbow and forearm problems.

Manager Manny Acta broke the news to Hill on Wednesday morning about 11:30 a.m. ET at Space Coast Stadium.

With Hill off the team, right-handers Collin Balester, Shairon Martis and Jordan Zimmerman will battle for fourth and fifth spots in the rotation.

Mr Ladson-

I have to admit I was skeptical when you wrote that the Nats scheduling Hill to pitch Friday “proved” he was over his arm troubles. I wish it were true, but replacing him on the roster with Beimel almost certainly makes the team better this year.

Hopefully the Nats get teh chance to put Hill in AAA to see if he has anything left.

Great season ahead for the Nationals with Beimel geared to intercept any late inning threats. Good thinking
